Hello, I am Dr Loretta Jophlin.

I dedicate my career to understanding, diagnosing, and treating liver diseases, particularly:

  • metabolic fatty liver disease (NASH / NAFLD),
  • lipid metabolism disorders,
  • chronic liver diseases,
  • and liver transplantation.

My research program focuses on liver diseases, with the goal of identifying new therapeutic targets and diagnostic biomarkers to prevent progression to fibrosis and cirrhosis.

My work has been recognized with the "Research Superstar" award, and several competitive grants to support my research and develop tissue biobank resources.

To date, my work has resulted in 22 peer-reviewed publications, totaling over 400 citations, and contributing to advancing our understanding of metabolic liver diseases.

A Career at the Intersection of Clinical Practice and Research

I have held academic and clinical leadership positions at:

  • the University of Nebraska Medical Center,
  • the University of Louisville, where I served as Medical Director of Liver Transplantation and UNOS primary physician for the Jewish Hospital transplant program.

My research has been supported by a prestigious NIH NIDDK K08 award, recognizing its clinical and scientific potential.

Today: Clinical Practice & Active Research

I currently practice at Norton Healthcare as a gastroenterologist and hepatologist, where I combine:

  • evidence-based clinical care,
  • active medical research,
  • and a constant commitment to training and mentoring young physicians and scientists.

I firmly believe that the future of liver care rests on integrating precision medicine, translational research, and a deep understanding of metabolic mechanisms.
